What is new

Wow it has been too long since we have blogged but we have had some major changes. In January of this year we moved our family and herd, including 9 pregnant does, from middle TN to TX. The day we left TN there was snow and ice on the ground and more falling. Not ideal conditions to be driving at all, let alone moving. However, with God's help we made the trip safely. Although the 44+ acres we bought was completely fenced we have had to cross fence pen areas for the herd, build multple barns hay feeders and a temporary milking facitlity. Alot to do with just a month before our first doe was due to kid but we pulled it off. We were blessed with many beautiful kids this year, including 3 doelings from our first 2 AI breeedings!! Katya and I have been busy making soap and lotion and hope to get a business started this fall. This summer has been brutally hot and dry which has put a halt to our outdoor plans. This fall/ winter we plan to expand our fenced pen areas and to construct a permanent milking facility.

Exciting News

We are thrilled to announce that our first 2 attempts to AI have been confirmed by Bio Tracking to be successful!!!! What is even more amazing is that we did not take any classes. We purchased an AI kit and book at a buck collection the previous fall and just went for it. We can't wait until spring to see the results.

We also confirmed through Bio Tracking that all live breedings were positive and we are again CAE negative.

Sunday was a big day for us at the fair. There were not enough milkers for sanctioning so we left our seniors at home. Aurora got her second Reserve Grand win for our Lamanchas. Lydia got her first Reserve Grand win for our nubians. Lydia has placed 1st in her class at every show she has entered!! We had 1st place in every Nubian class we entered and in fact none of our girls stood behind another herd. We had 1st place Best 3 head. We are very proud of all of our girls and we cannot wait to freshen our lovely yearlings this coming season.

Our first show of the 2010 season was at Grinders Switch. This show is put on by Pam Hethcote and is probably one of the most enjoyable family shows to go to. After the serious business of showing on Saturday the exhibitors are treated to a cook out followed by games for kids of all ages that include an obstacle course, dress up your goat and kids knowledge bowl. Truly a great time. Our daughter Katya took 1st place in showmanship for the second year in a row. We were thrilled to see 2 of our kids go Reserve Grand for their breeds. They can be seen on our Junior doe page. Our junior herd sire Silver King got 1st place Get of Sire. We are already looking forward to next year at Grinders!!!

Phoebe

Our lovely yearling Phoebe was induced to kid sometime today. We are anxious to see the results of her breeding to Silver King. Her udder is starting to fill and she is being extremely vocal  about the whole ordeal. We will update our breedings page and post pics as soon as possible.

Well, with lots of drama AND noise/fanfare, Phoebe blessed us with a beautiful 9lb brown buck:((that was actually holding up the process) and a very nice 8lb black doe:lol: at 10:30 PM. Both are leggy and appear to be quite long and are up and moving very well. Phoebe is MUCH quieter now. Ahhhhhhhhh. We will post pics in a day or so on the sale page. The doe kid may be offered for sale. We are evaluating the Dams' udder to make a determination on the buckling.

Shannon's buckling went to his new home on Saturday. We hope he will sire many nice does for his new owners.

This leaves us with one very nice buckling out of Pru/ Beacon. This buckling is big and healthy. He has nice sharp withers and is open in the escuetchion. His dam is milking 13 lbs a day with teats that are nice for hand or machine milking.

After much drama and anxiety Price O The Field Miss Ileen finally kidded with twin doelings:lol:. Both of these girls are extremely nice:D. They are both black roans with tan trim and one has a white splash on her show side. 3 things come to mind, flat and level rumps, width between the hocks and sharp withers. We have come to expect the nice, level toplines this line is known for. There are pics posted on the Babies page. At this time both will be retained until weaning.

Today is Ileen's due date, a day we have been anxiously waiting for. We are very blessed to have 2 of her daughters in our herd, Pearl and Katya. Ileen and her daughters are soooo correct, we cannot wait to see what Illen and Silver produce. Of course it looks like she is not going to make this easy. Her udder is starting to come in but her ligaments are still tight. We decided to induce to help things along and will keep you posted.
